On the farm we had a rocky outcrop which was perfect for picnic barbecues where steaks, chops and sausages were cooked on a simple hotplate on top of rocks with a mallee root fire. My mother (Elsie May) declared this her favourite sauce made with roma tomatoes, onions and apples was absolutely ‘the best ever sauce’.
